Sustainability

We are determined to be a part of the change the textile and apparel industry is facing.

By changing the methodology used in our textile manufacturing process, we are contributing to the reinvention of the luxury fashion industry. We understand the huge responsibility we have taken on. We are committed and already working towards a more sustainable textile production model that respects both the environment and all the people involved throughout the production and supply chain.

We have come a long way since we designed NEXTIL GROUP’s first sustainability strategy. Today we have more visibility and transparency about our social and environmental impacts. We have managed to define tangible goals and objectives to achieve concrete and measurable results.

We are determined to keep improving our sustainability performance; therefore, we have a dedicated, professional sustainability team who work constantly to implement and certify textile sustainability standards, improve performance and report results. We have based our sustainability strategy on three main pillars that can drive positive change: People, Product and Planet.

Planet

We want to operate within planetary boundaries, protect the environment and prevent all forms of pollution. Therefore, we promote the efficient use of water, energy and chemicals. We also measure and assess the environmental performance of our facilities, to ensure the sustainable use of resources in order to meet the needs of future generations. We are implementing water and energy efficiency programmes and, since 2020, purchasing 100% renewable energy.

In further efforts, to contribute to climate change mitigation, we are measuring and reporting scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions, according to the Corporate Accounting and Sporting Standard of the GHG Protocol, to assess the carbon footprint across all our facilities.

People

We are committed to providing a respectful, safe and healthy workplace for all our employees. We understand a business as a diverse, inclusive and ethical place where everyone works together towards the same goals in a comfortable environment. All our professional teams have access to the Code of Ethics and Conduct and are aware of all their rights. We are continuously assessing our social performance, and we have set the target to achieve an 80% score in the Higg FSLM index in all our facilities in Portugal, Spain and the U.S.A.

Promoting transparency amongst our team starts with good governance and honesty. For that reason, we are completely open and public with our sustainability performance, which we report according to the global reporting standards and to the European Union Directive regulatory requirements. As part of our philosophy, we collaborate with different social causes in our local areas, such as food bank contributions and Covid-19 PPE donations to local hospitals in Portugal.

Products

We are increasing the sustainability of our raw material mix by procuring more sustainable fibres, such as sustainable cotton, recycled polyester and manmade cellulosic fibres from non-endangered certified forests. By guaranteeing both supply chain and product traceability, we ensure the due diligence of the impacts of our activity. We supervise and manage the product’s full production process and lifecycle, allowing us to assume responsibility for our decisions, activities and product impacts.

A key part of our strategy is also promoting transparency and fair practice across all our apparel productions. We rigorously ensure the health and environmental safety of our products, as well as compliance with all regulatory requirements, guaranteeing total safety for the people who manufacture and wear our garments.
